Angels Last Mission: Love

Angel’s Last Mission: Love ~ Finding Love for the Unlovable

“Angel’s Last Mission: Love” is a 2019 Korean drama series, with 32 episodes, and can be categorized as Romance, Comedy (Rom-Com), and Fantasy or Supernatural.

SUMMARY: An angel must never touch a human. That is one of the rules of the heavenly realm.  If it is broken, the angel will cease to exist. There was a terrible accident and the pitiful pleas of a human crying for someone to save their life was too much. The angel broke the rules and saved her life. As punishment, he became a human and was sent on his final mission. If he accomplishes the mission, he can go to heaven. His mission? To find true love for an unlovable prima ballerina.

I Want to Live!

In “Angel’s Last Mission: Love”, Kim Dan is an angel who knows the rules of the heavenly realm. He must never touch a human. If he does, he’ll disappear, as in “cease to exist”. He doesn’t want that. He wants to go to heaven. But even though he knew the rules, the female human was badly injured and pleading for someone to save her. Lee Seul-hwa was blind but she could hear that someone was near the accident and they were close enough to help her. She used to be a prima ballerina, but while performing on stage one night there was a terrible accident which resulted in her losing her eyesight. People were afraid to be around her because she was an angry, bitter, cold-hearted former ballet dancer who took out her frustration on everyone else as if it were their fault. What’s even worse is that the Fantasia Ballet Company that her parents built for her to inherit has practically been stolen from her by greedy relatives.

So many times Lee Seul-hwa had wanted to die. But now that she is close to death, she’s begging to live. Her pitiful pleas were too much for Kim Dan and he yielded to temptation. He broke the rules and touched a human to save her life. When Lee Seul-hwa woke up in the hospital, she could see!  Another person died in the accident. He was her faithful driver and in his will, he had given her his eyes.

Meanwhile, Kim Dan was getting ready to receive his punishment. But wait! He didn’t disappear! Why does he still exist? It’s true, he does exist, but no longer as an angel. Now he is a human and being given a chance to re-earn his wings. This will be his last mission. If he fails he can forget about a heavenly reward.

  • What’s the mission? LOVE. He must find true love for Lee Seul-hwa. Even though she is no longer blind, she is still disgruntled, angry, and a terrifying person to be in the same room with.

Lee Seul-hwa has so many emotional scars. She is afraid to love because all of the people she loved have died. Loving someone is too painful so she avoids becoming vulnerable. Kim Dan starts trying to play matchmaker, but then he develops genuine feelings for her and unintentionally creates a love triangle. This wasn’t supposed to happen. Aren’t angels only supposed to love God? Will he be punished for loving Lee Seul-hwa?

Viewership and Ratings:

My personal rating is the same as the Viki viewers.

This delightful Korean drama won several awards at the 2019 KBS Drama Awards ceremony.

  • Shin Hae-Sun won the Top Excellence Award: Actress.
  • Kim Myung-Soo won Best New Actor and K-Drama Hallyu Star.
  • Together they won the Best Couple Award.

I would have watched “Angel’s Last Mission: Love”, with or without the awards. It was fun! Especially when that other angel showed up!

OMG, blind ballerina with a heart of ice? Angel tasked with making her fall in love? This sounds like the perfect rom-com recipe! Plus, award-winning actors and a 9.5 rating on Viki? Sign me up! I gotta see how this grumpy ballerina and her clumsy angel end up together. Definitely checking out the trailer!

Oh, yes! Are Shin Hae-Sun and L in the same drama? This is a must-see for K-drama fans! I adored them in both "Welcome to Samdal-ri" and "Royal Secret Agent." The plot also sounds like a fresh take on the typical enemies-to-lovers trope. I wonder if the angel will complete his duty, or if love will get in the way. Cannot wait to find out!Sounds like a wonderful drama with a little of everything: romance, comedy, and fantasy! Perfect for a weekend of binge-watching with my pals. I'm curious whether there's any angst. A love triangle featuring an angel sounds quite dramatic. I hope the ending is happy!

This drama sounds interesting, but I'm curious about the emotional depth. Can a celestial being truly understand human love? And how will the ballerina deal with her past trauma? It could be a heartwarming story about healing and redemption, or it might fall flat if the characters aren't believable. I'll have to read some reviews to see if it explores these themes well.

Ooh, fantasy K-drama with a touch of the supernatural? This is right up my alley! I love how Korean dramas can blend genres so seamlessly. The whole angel-human connection reminds me a little of "Goblin," which I adored. Hopefully, this one has a similar balance of humor and heartfelt moments.

This seems like a fun drama that I could watch while folding laundry or doing some minor housekeeping. I like that it has a good balance of romance and comedy; laughter is the best cure! Furthermore, the good ratings are undoubtedly a benefit. Maybe it's not the most complicated story, but sometimes you simply need a happy ending.

I test out South Korean actors and actresses by seeing how well they do in historical period dramas. The female lead is the actress from “Mr. Queen” and the male lead is from “Royal Secret Agent”. I figured they would be good in a fantasy room-com. They were!
