Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the writers and directors behind the horror hit A Quiet Place and its sequel, are teaming up with producer Sam Raimi to bring us 65, a new action film starring Adam Driver next spring.
Driver plays Commander Mills, lead officer of a spaceship on an exploratory mission. When the spaceship is hit by a rogue asteroid, it careens out of control and crash-lands on an alien planet. The good news is that the air is breathable, but that’s about all that’s good. The planet IS inhabited and said inhabitors seem hostile and hungry.
Mills must now find a way to repair his ship — a tall order considering it seems to have broken in half — while protecting the crew’s only other known survivor, a small child (Ariana Greenblatt). The ship originally contained 35 passengers. Why not 65? 65 passengers would make the title make sense! Why’s it called 65 otherwise?
Well, you’ve gotta watch the trailer and wait for it. All will be explained when Mills gets his first good-light look at one of those “aliens”….
Yes, the ship somehow traveled through time while on its course, and landed back on Earth, 65 million years in the past. Mills is fighting dinosaurs with futuristic weapons. This somehow makes the movie a lot more interesting than it would have if this were just some other planet.
In addition, a lot of viewers of this trailer have guessed — probably correctly — that the asteroid that hit Mills’ ship is the same one that’s about to kill the dinosaurs on Earth, putting a time limit on his plans to escape. Now that he knows it’s Earth his goal is time travel, not blasting into space…but can he pull it off?
65 will be released March 10.
