A PSYCHO-PASS Recap For Those Who Need To Catch Up

In just a few days, Crunchyroll will release PSYCHO-PASS: Providence in theaters. It is supposed to be the last chapter in the PSYCHO-PASS story, taking place between the last movie and the third season of the show.

But in case it’s been a while since you last saw PSYCHO-PASS, Crunchyroll has put together a recap video summarizing the events that led up to where this movie takes place. You know how TV shows will offer “Previously on” segments to refresh their audience’s memory for plot elements that will come into play in the upcoming story? Same deal.

PSYCHO-PASS is a sci-fi series about a supercomputer called The Sibyl System that governs over every aspect of human society. Among other things, it’s programmed to sense when a person’s mental state could cross a line into violence or other criminal activity, a horizon line it calls the “PSYCHO PASS.” Using this judgement, Sibyl employs gun-wielding detectives called Dominators to hunt down criminals before they technically become them.

This is basically a more oppressive version of the government shown in Minority Report, complete with the question of “what if the system itself is corrupt?” Inspector Akane Tsunemori and her partner Shinya Kogami are determined to find out the truth behind Sibyl.

The dub version of PSYCHO-PASS: Providence stars the English voices of Kate Oxley (Akane Tsunemori), Robert McCollum (Shinya Kogami), Jessie James (Nobuchika Ginoza), Cherami Leigh (Mika Shimotsuki), Mike McFarland (Teppei Sugo), Z. Charles Bolton (Sho Hinakawa), Lindsay Seidel (Yayoi Kunizuka), Lydia Mackay (Shion Karanomori), Erin Kelly Noble (Frederica Hanashiro), Bruce DuBose (Arata Shindo), Eduardo Vildasol (Kei Mikhail), and Stephanie Young (Dominator).

The film was directed by Naoyoshi Shiotani, and will be released in US theaters July 14, with preview screenings on July 11 (English dub) and July 13 (sub version).
