K-dramas to rewatch

5 Binge-worthy K-Dramas to Rewatch

Any K-dramas you want to rewatch?  I have been enjoying Korean dramas for years and there are lots of them where I could rewatch the entire series. The ones listed below have scenes in particular episodes that I have watched over and over.

If you have not watched these K-dramas then this article might include *SPOILERS*. (I apologize.) If you have already watched them, I am wondering if you agree with me. Do you also think these K-dramas are worth watching more than once?

1) Tomorrow (2022)

This is a supernatural K-drama series about grim reapers who prevent suicides. It’s a very unique storyline. All the episodes addressed the sensitive topic with tenderness and genuine concern for a person in distress contemplating suicide. But the episode that really tugged at my heartstrings was the one about the heroic veteran who had served in the war.

I watched it more than once and cried every time. I loved that hero and his life story made me angry at the way his bravery in battle was disregarded. One of the grim reapers showed him the view of Seoul at night and told him that this was the country he had protected.

He was amazed because he said he had never seen this view of the country since he had come back home from the war. When it was his time to pass into the afterlife, a legion of grim reapers showed up to escort him and they all saluted him. At the end of the scene, I was crying my eyes out.

Also, I love that key! (Watch the trailer.)

2) Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung (2019)

This a historical period drama about female historians, who took their jobs just as seriously as their male counterparts. They experienced gender discrimination but overcame it.

There is a scene in one of the episodes that I watched over and over and over. It was hilarious but at the same time very serious. The king wanted to see the admin records kept by the historians, which is against the rules. He sent men to their workplace to take the documents by force if necessary.

The men sent by the king and the male historians literally got into a fistfight. They were throwing punches left and right. When the female historians heard all the commotion they ran outside to see what was happening. As soon as they realized what was going on they joined in the fight.

It was hilarious! Nobody maintained their dignity. Then another scene, in the same episodes, where the historian brought the ax before the king and demanded the king reverse his royal command … that scene was priceless!

Also, I liked the uniforms that the female historians were given to wear. (Watch the trailer.)

3) Mr. Sunshine (2018)

This is a Netflix original series and everything about it is SPECTACULAR! There were several episodes that I liked. But there were 3 scenes in different episodes that I liked the most.

(1) When the American military officer (formerly a slave in Joseon) walked up to slave owners who were responsible for the death of parents and threw the accessory at them that belonged to their daughter-in-law. Perhaps they had forgotten him, but he had never forgotten them. The look on their face was pure shock, horror, and fright!

(2) Then in another scene he walked up to their son who was eating at a restaurant. He walked up to him and gave him “a look”. The son who was sitting at the table trying to eat his food said something like: “I’ve seen that look before. Which one was it? My father or my grandfather?”  (I thought to myself: ‘The child often suffers for the sins of the parents.’)

(3) The scene where the Korean lady who owned the hotel.  The Japanese troops were staying at her hotel and SHE BLEW IT UP!! With the Japanese inside, of course.

4) Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (2016)

The Hwarang are the flower boys of the Silla Kingdom (57 BC–AD 935). Young men chosen from noble families were chosen and trained to be warriors. But they were also trained in the arts, and I might add that they were all “eye candy”.

There is one episode where the guys had to give a show. They danced for the queen. Yes, the dance steps were cheesy but the guys looked so cute when they were performing.

In another episode, the warriors were sent as part of a delegation to Baekje to avoid war. The prince in that kingdom, of course, wanted a war. He had captured people from Silla and put them in prison. The warriors escaped with the prisoners and the prince chased after them. There were only a few warriors and the citizens were unarmed.

The prince had troops and intended to slaughter them. However, the rest of the Hwarang came to the rescue and the prince had to turn around and go back home. It was so cool!

Also, I like the official blue and white uniforms they chose for the Hwarang. The red and black uniforms looked good too but I like the blue and white looked better. (Watch the trailer.)

5) Dong Yi (2010)

This historical period drama is about the true love story between the king and a lowly water maid. The best episode was when one of the corrupt officials conspired against Dong Yi. He thought that he had the queen in the palm of his hand and could easily manipulate her to do his bidding.  But Dong Yi visited the queen directly and gave her “the rest of the story”.

The corrupt official showed up at Dong Yi’s residence thinking that they would arrest her. However, he was shocked when … they arrested him instead. I was like: “Boo yeah! Take that you dirty rat!”

Also, the king was HOT! Viewers would want to rewatch the series just to look at him. LOL. (Watch the trailer.)
