“Haunters” begins with a rainy day in 1991. A woman is walking down the sidewalk making her way through the rain and a little boy is holding onto her. He must hold on and allow her to lead him because his eyes are covered with a blindfold. When they arrive home she tells him not to take off the bandages unless he needs to wash his face. Even then he must not open his eyes. He must not take the bandages off even when he is sleeping. Then the mother promised to help him get better. And he replied: “But I’m not sick.” That boy was Cho-In.
Fast forward to 2010, and we meet Im Kyu-Nam. Even though he works at a junkyard, he seems to be very intelligent and kindhearted. He was trying on a jacket, which was a gift for his birthday, and was not paying attention. By not paying attention, he was in the direct path of an oncoming truck which hit him. He ended up in the hospital and while he was lying in the hospital bed his friends told him that he no longer had a job.
Once he recovered and was discharged from the hospital he landed a job working as a manager for a loan business called Utopia. The main reason he was hired was because the owner said money was missing and he could not figure out why. He was certain someone came into his place of business but couldn’t prove it. Im Kyu-Nam’s job is to help him catch the thief.
The owner’s suspicions were correct. Someone was coming into his business and robbing him. That person was Cho-In. He is the boy whose mother wanted to help him get better but he said he was not sick. Some people called him a monster. Cho-In can control the minds of people with his eyes. He can control everyone except … Im Kyu-Nam.
Cho-In attempted to rob Utopia again, not expecting to meet any resistance. But to his surprise, Im Kyu-Nam was looking right at him, but Cho-In could not control him. They engage in a determined battle to overcome each other. In that struggle, Im Kyu-Nam’s boss is killed.
Cho-In and Im Kyu-Nam both have supernatural abilities. From that moment forward, now that they have met each other face-to-face, there is an epic battle between them. Cho-In must defeat Im Kyu-Nam.
My personal rating is ????
The storyline was baffling. One reviewer described it this way: “… Haunters has more loose strands and gaping holes than an old fishing net.”
While I was watching the movie I got confused and started to wonder if Im Kyu-Nam and Cho-In were the same person. In other words, it was a case of a split personality where the good personality was trying to overcome the wicked personality.
I don’t want to spoil it, but it was the ending that left me kind of bewildered. The truth is I only watched it because I like the South Korean actor Ko Soo (some spell the name “Go Soo”).

In “P1H: The Beginning of a New World”, six boys come to planet Earth from the stars Alkaid (also called the “hope star”) and Alcor (a dim star) to … yep! … you guessed it. SAVE PLANET EARTH. Because humans can never save themselves. They always need beings from another planet or star with superpowers to help them out.
It seems that drones are flying all around with a deadly virus and they shoot some sort of worm (that’s what it looks like) into the neck of a human to infect them. Once infected, the human becomes a person with an uncontrollable desire to kill everybody else. Of course, sometimes they get killed because uninfected humans manage to defend themselves and escape to safety.
The mission of the six is complicated because they have to travel through time until they finally end up in the year 2020 which is the future where a new world begins.

Honestly! I didn’t know what to make of it. But other reviewers thought it was pretty cool. So I guess I have to rewatch the movie. I didn’t get why there was a talking teddy bear (O.o). I did at least figure out that P1Harmony is a Kpop group and each one of the guys appeared in this movie with a superpower. It was a debut feature film which was their way of connecting with their fans.
My takeaway? I guess humans can never save themselves. They kill each other even when they’re not infected with a virus that makes them violent and murderous.
