Trailer For Borderlands: The Movie Now Live

-

A Borderlands movie has been in the works for years, and we thought it might never happen, but we also thought the same about a Beetlejuice 2 and we’re getting both within 2024. The trailer for Borderlands: The Movie went live this morning after a few teaser photos were sent out yesterday. Here’s what such a thing looks like:

Cate Blanchett leads the charge as brightly redheaded treasure hunter Lilith, who’s after a legendary bounty on the barbaric planet Pandora. She assembles a gang that includes Roland (Kevin Hart), Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt). A smart-mouthed robot, Claptrap (Jack Black) says he can guide them to the treasure’s location, but calamities ensue. Comparisons between the feel of this movie and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy are plentiful, and we doubt the similarity is a coincidence.

While some characters feel the same in this trailer, others are totally different. Tiny Tina isn’t really TINY enough. There are probably reasons why we can’t have a rampaging, swearing 5-year-old but still, it loses something.

One thing that IS intact is the series’ lowbrow sense of humor, with multiple bathroom gags in this trailer alone and probably a lot more we haven’t seen yet. Why is there a natural geyser that shoots urine? Because Borderlands, that’s why.

Borderlands: The Movie also stars Gina Gershon as Moxxi, Edgar Ramirez as Atlas, Janina Gavankar as Knoxx, Cheyenne Jackson as Jakobs, and Haley Bennett as…they won’t tell us yet. Hope it’s a good surprise. The looting and shooting begins August 9 in theaters everywhere.
