In “Through the Darkness”, it’s a wonderful day for a child named Song Ha-Young. It’s May 1975 and Children’s Day is being celebrated Happy children are everywhere. Song Ha-Young is on a boat ride with his guardian when he accidentally falls into the water. He was quickly rescued but not before he saw the body of a dead woman under water.
The woman had been murdered. Song Ha-Young had been exposed to a brutal crime. One would think such a shocking event might have a bad impact on a child’s psyche. But 20 years later, when Song Ha-Young grew up, he became a detective. He wanted to solve crimes.
Meanwhile, Kook Young-Soo is doing everything he can to persuade the higher-ups to use scientific investigation techniques. He is convinced that criminal profiling will be of great value to crime-solving. But nobody wants to listen to him! He already has someone in mind who is perfect for the job as a criminal profiler. Who? Song Ha-Young, of course.
He believes Song Ha-Young not only possesses the skills and qualifications to do the job, but he has the personality traits required to look into the heart and mind of a criminal and predict the likely suspect. When Kook Young-Soo approaches Song Ha-Young with this job opportunity, even Song Ha-Young is skeptical and refuses.
Even though Song Ha-Young refused, the way he approached his investigations was similar to what a criminal profiler would have done. He was already doing criminal profiling without having a specific job title. Eventually, Kook Young-Soo convinced the higher-ups to establish a Criminal Behavioral Analysis Team.
And the rest is history.
My personal rating is 10 out of 10 stars.

A rating of 10 out of 10 stars is rare. But for “Through the Darkness”, this rating is justified. The person in charge of the casting gets 10 out of 10 stars for choosing Kim Nam-Gil to play this role. If the casting isn’t enough reason for the rating, then just watch the “Episode 1 Special”.
A viewer does not have to watch all 12 episodes because they understand everything immediately. People are resistant to change. Even if the change is good, they will fight against it until undeniable proof that it is a good change is presented.
When have you ever watched one episode of a series and you were fully convinced that the rest of the series would be OUTSTANDING??
