The Witcher Returns To Netflix Later This Year

Good news for everyone with a Netflix subscription: one of its best programs is confirmed to be returning within 2021. Until now, nobody knew when we’d be getting the second season of The Witcher, and it could very well have taken until 2022 to show up…but the company revealed today Season 2 will appear in the second half of this year. It’s not an EXACT release date but it’s close enough.

Having nailed his performances in books, television AND video games, Geralt of Rivera is that rare character who’s accomplished the fiction form of an EGOT. He belongs to a race of monster-hunters known as Witchers, whom everybody fears but is willing to hire to do their dirty work. Through a series of events that take the entire first season to tell, Geralt finds himself bound to Princess Ciri, a young girl who could either endanger or save the world, depending on who’s protecting her. Guess who’s been declared her legal guardian?

Geralt spends most of Season 1 searching for Ciri..in the meantime the gaps are filled by the adventures of a smart and sassy sorceress named Yennefer. The two storylines play out concurrently but we don’t find out until close to the end that the timelines are centuries apart. But since Witchers and sorceresses live so long, their paths eventually cross — and it doesn’t take long after that for them to start making out.

There still aren’t very many details on the plotline of Season 2, but we do know Geralt plans to take Ciri to his childhood home of Kaer Morhen, where he figures she’ll be safe. Of course if that was true it wouldn’t be a very exciting season, so we figure the place will have changed since he was last there.

In addition to the second season of the regular series, a six-part prequel spinoff called Witcher: Blood Omen is also in production, as well as an anime film called Nightmare of the Wolf. The Witcher Season 2 premieres this fall on Netflix.
