The Last Of Us Returns On HBO April 13

-

The initial season of The Last Of Us, based on the video game, was a huge hit for HBO, gaining massive ratings and critical praise. It’s been a long (but typical for streaming) wait since then for the promised second season. HBO confirmed today they plan to start that season April 13, 2025. Why April 13? Because that’s five days after the 12-month bulk subscription I bought almost a year ago runs out. They did that on purpose.

There still isn’t much in the way of video footage, but HBO did give the press three new posters to look at, featuring the three main characters of the season. Joel and Ellie will soon meet Abby for the first time, who is destined to bulk up and start hunting – well, we’re getting into spoilers.

In fact if you’ve never played the game, you definitely shouldn’t ask anyone who has what happens, because they KNOW things — bombshell things. The pace of those bombshells might be different than it was in the game, however. HBO has implied they want The Last Of Us to be a four-season show. The first season adapted the entire first game and did so faithfully, lifting some cutscenes verbatim. If they’re now adapting the other game but expect to get three seasons out of it, they’re gonna need a lot of padding. We hear some areas of Part II that were cut in development may see adaption in the series.

The Last Of Us will feature the return of Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, alongside Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria. Joining the cast will be Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac. Catherine O’Hara is also in this season somewhere but they won’t tell us where.

The Last Of Us Season 2 will premiere Sunday, April 13 at 9 PM on HBO and Max, with new episodes premiering on a weekly basis. The second season will be seven episodes long.
