The Greatest Beer Run is coming to Apple TV+ this September 30th. Apple is currently killing it with their original movies and limited serials. Now we have the biographical film about John Donahue. (Nicknamed Chickie by his friends)
He is a merchant seaman who, in 1967, desired to inspire all of his childhood buddies battling in Vietnam. By making the risky friendly gesture, he hoped to encourage his friends while they engaged in the fight. Find all his buddies fighting in the Vietnam Warzone so that he may bring them beer and messages from their families. John served in the U.S. Marine Corps but was not a field soldier trained for combat.
So he puts his life in peril to inspire his friends who are going through an intense battle.
In 1967, Most of Chickie’s (Zach Efron) served in the field during the Vietnam War. He and his other friends left behind are at a Bar in New York. On the News, he saw a crowd of protesters opposing the war on the TV screen. The bartender jokes that people are dying and someone should send the soldiers some beer to lift their spirits. Chickie took that seriously and accepted the challenge. He traveled from New York to Vietnam to inspire his friends by giving them beer and love from home.
Chickie gathers all his bravery to travel to the most hazardous location on earth then. All because he wants to lend his support to the troops. He wants to support them not by protesting on the streets but by providing a source of motivation for them. Even though it may jeopardize his life, he doesn’t even know where his friends got assigned to in Vietnam, but somehow he gets to locate them to fetch beer.
“Oh my God, Chickie, What the hell are you doing here?” his friend asked.
“I am here to fetch you a beer,” Chickie said.
One by One, Chickie is on a Mission to give all of his friends a cold can of alcoholic fizzy drink. No danger stops him from doing this mission to provide hope to his friends.
