Back in May we told you it might happen. There was no reason to believe it wouldn’t, but today it was confirmed: Fast And Furious, the very long, very over the top series of movies about found family and car chases, will spin its wheels off into a Peacock TV series. Whether it arrives before or after the next movie (which, remember, is supposed to be the final one) is the big question.
Mike Daniels (Sons of Anarchy, PONIES) and Wolfe Coleman (9-1-1: Lone Star) have been hired as writers and showrunners for the show, which will be overseen by Vin Diesel as executive producer. Back when Diesel first blabbed this show was in development, he suggested it could follow “legacy characters,” possibly meaning guys we haven’t seen in a while (whose actors are cheap to hire) or younger versions of people (who can be recast). We don’t really see any other way of doing it.
Now are you ready for this: This would be only the SECOND Fast and Furious TV series to exist. Apparently there was an animated show for children that ran on Netflix for three years called Fast & Furious Spy Racers, and it centered around Tony Toretto, the younger cousin of Diesel’s Dominic…so the idea of focusing on little-known relatives of the main cast has already been done. It lasted six seasons.
Peacock thinks they can get this new F&F show out in 2028, which is the same year the “final” Fast and Furious film, Fast Forever, is scheduled to be released in theaters. Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese, Ludacris, Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot have all signed on to return for that picture. Barring any delays, the film is due out March 17, 2028.
