Squid Game: America? David Fincher Thinks He Can Make It Happen

-

After a years-long wait, we will see Squid Game return to Netflix for a second season within 2024, but it will just barely slide in under the tag, making its debut on December 26. After that there will be a third season, and then the story will be considered over. So…THEN what?

We suppose another disastrous “reality show” version of the game is always an option, but director David Fincher has a better idea. He wants to make an American version of the show called — what else — Squid Game: America.

While domestic adaptions of hits from other countries are nothing new, this is a unique situation in that the foreign hit is ALREADY popular. Since everyone has already seen and memory-logged the Korean version of Squid Game, there’s no real NEED to remake it for an American audience, is there? What would be the point?

Fincher has taken that into account. Reports suggest this would be a spinoff set in the same universe. All the events of the South Korean drama thriller would be canon. Someone would just be inspired to run a Battle Royale themed around children’s games for the amusement of the 1% over here as well. Possibly Elon Musk but who knows.

Officially, Netflix will neither confirm or deny Squid Game: America is being developed, but sources associated with the website Deadline say it’s definitely a thing. Fincher has been working closely with the streamer since it first began exploring scripted content, helping to make House Of Cards among other attractions.
