SUMMARY: A young boy is brought into the home of a nobleman to serve the master’s son. But rumors started circulating about their relationship because the master’s son and the slave were very close. The slave overheard the father giving orders to have him killed so he ran away. Another nobleman helped the slave by changing his gender and identity. The boy dressed like a girl and was introduced as the nobleman’s illegitimate daughter. The deception worked until he was forced to get married.
In “Spring of Crush”, Sal-byeol was about 6 to 8 years old when he was traumatized and lost his memory. Min Seo Yoon was about 8 to 10 years old when he was traumatized by the death of his mother. It was something he could not forget and he was terrified at the sight of blood. He clammed up and wouldn’t talk to anyone. Sal-byeol was brought in as a slave but also to be a companion to the master’s son. As time went on, Sal-byeol was able to help Min Seo Yoon come out of his shell. They became very close and even though Sal-byeol was a slave, Min Seo Yoon would not allow anybody to harm him.
One day Min Seo Yoon’s father overheard people whispering about his son’s relationship with the slave boy. They were saying it was unnatural. Sal-byeol had heard the rumors but he always considered Min Seo Yoon as a close friend. Min Seo Yoon’s father rushed to get his son married but his son would never sleep with his wife. The father decided to take drastic measures and he hired an assassin to kill the slave. Sal-byeol overheard the plan to kill him so he ran away.
The assassin caught him and was about to kill him when Jin Geum Seong stepped in and defended. Thanks to Jin Geum Seong’s martial arts skills, Sal-byeol escaped. There was another nobleman who knew Sal-byeol’s father. Even though Sal-byeol had no memory of his family, the man told him he would help him because he wanted to pay a debt to his father. The nobleman said to him that Sal-byeol is dead, and he will now live the rest of his life as Choi Hye Seong, his illegitimate daughter. Sal-byeol agreed to switch genders and identities. It was either that or get caught and killed by an assassin or a slave hunter. He wanted to live.
Everything was fine until the nobleman’s wife decided she wanted to get rid of her husband’s illegitimate daughter. She arranged a marriage to a poor nobleman whose mother owed her money. The debt was forgiven in exchange for taking in Choi Hye Seong as a daughter-in-law. Choi Hye Seong’s adoptive father told him to do whatever it took to make the mother-in-law and husband hate him. He did not have to reveal his identity because they would be so displeased that they would just kick him out of the house. The poor nobleman turned out to Jin Geum Seong, the man who saved Sal-byeol from the assassin.
That plan to make his husband and mother-in-law hate him did not work. Jin Geum Seong began to develop feelings for his wife, Choi Hye Seong, not knowing that “she” was a man. Min Seo Yoon was told that Sal-byeol had died, but he refused to believe it so he kept searching for him. Eventually, he found him / “her”. The relationships between Jin Geum Seong, Choi Hye Seong / Sal-byeol, and Min Seo Yoon got complicated.
Min Seo Yoon’s father was doing everything to find Sal-byeol and kill him. Sal-byeol’s adoptive father was doing everything to help him escape and start a new life. But wait! There’s more. Someone else is also searching for Sal-byeol. WHO and WHY?

When I first started watching “Spring of Crush”, I thought it was a BL K-drama, which is not my preference. The actors and actresses were not A-listers, but after watching the first episode, the storyline became interesting. The purpose of that episode was to show how rumors get started and believed as fact without any proof. The bad rumors get circulated and they can be injurious and might even cost a person their life. I liked the way the plot unfolded. The backstory or subplot for character development was unexpected. Some viewers say it’s a BL but I thought it was more like a bromance. This is obviously not a popular Korean drama because there are hardly any published reviews. It was free to stream on Tubi TV.
