Spaceballs 2 Is Really Happening

-

For entire decades, Mel Brooks has hinted that someday he’d like to make a movie called “Spaceballs 3: The Search For Spaceballs 2.” But the search is over: he’s actually making a Spaceballs 2, so the real search will be for Spaceballs 3.

A teaser was released on Brooks’ social media channels this morning, where a tilted Star Warsian text crawl lists all the sci-fi sequels and remakes that have come out in the last 38 years, including “2 Dunes, 7 Jurassic Parks and 2 Avatars plus Three Upcoming Avatars making Five Avatars.” But there has been only one Spaceballs, it says, until now. Brooks himself takes it from there…

Spaceballs 2 will retain more of the original cast than you might expect! Mel has confirmed he’s putting the golden makeup back on to reappear as Yogurt (he did not confirm the dual role of President Skroob). Somehow Bill Pullman is returning as Lone Starr, but the craziest thing is that they’ve convinced Rick Moranis to once again don the dark helmet of Dark Helmet. Do you know how hard it is to get that guy these days??

There will be some actors younger than 70, though…Josh Gad and Keke Palmer have been confirmed as unannounced new characters. Serving in the producer roles are Brooks, Gad and Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer. The script is being written by Jeb Brody. Gad, Benji Samit, and Dan Hernandez. Executive overlords include Samit, Hernandez, Adam Merims, and Kevin Salter.

“After 40 years, we asked, ‘What do the fans want?’ Brooks stated. “But instead, we’re making this movie. May the Schwartz be with you.” Spaceballs 2 is expected in 2027.
