There are songs based on love, both happy and tragic. Some songs about going through hardships or losing hope. There are also songs about reaching dreams. Today I decided to share some songs about real crimes.
I don’t like Mondays by Boomtown Rats
Brenda Spencer was a young teen who struggled with her family and got bullied at school. Most people who know her believe she is a shy, sweet girl, but her abuse caused her to lose her cool. She decided to open fire on instructors and pupils at a school using a rifle. Both deaths and injuries occurred. I don’t like Mondays, and she said when questioned why she committed this horrific murder after being apprehended. Her shooting spree was the nation’s first known shooting. After that, it became an annual custom.
Despite its sinister origins, people adopt this song as an anthem for missing the weekends.
This romantic folk song is about the forbidden love between Mary Kay Leternou, A 37-year-old teacher who was a wife and mother of 4 who is depressed from her unhappy marriage. All of that changed when she met her 12-year-old student, Villi, Oh, who was also her son’s friend. At first, she tutored him in his lessons, but Villi started seducing him, and the two fell in love. After Mary got pregnant, She got divorced from her husband after finding out she cheated on him with a 12-year-old boy, and she got jailed for seven years for statutory rape.
While she was in prison, she escaped and got pregnant from Villi again. They sent her back to jail after the end of her sentence. Villi is now of legal age, and the two of them decided to get married. They had two kids together. Their love story ended with Mary Kay dying of Cancer, leaving Villi alone as his daughters, who are old enough to be his little sisters are now in college.
Ciudad Juarez Mexico is one of the most dangerous places to be a woman. Over 500 women had died in this place but the Mexican government still struggles to stop the killings. This song is a criticism to the Mexican government for doing nothing against the Femicides happening in Juarez.
These two songs were both inspired by Bonnie and Clyde, a young couple who became a terror of Central United States during the great depression. They robbed banks and murdered people as a romantic way to enjoy their relationship. Despite being hardhearted criminals, there has got romanticized in movies, TV specials, and songs. There are actually more songs about them but I will run out of time if I will share all of them.
