Simon Stålenhag’s Swedish Machines Funded on Kickstarter

-

You know Swedish artist Simon Stålenhag for his work on Free League’s tabletop RPGs — both Tales From The Loop and the upcoming The Electric State are based around his art. If you like looking at said art, there’s a new book coming soon — and through its currently-running Kickstarter campaign, you can secure a copy.

The new book is called Swedish Machines, combining two of Stålenhag’s favorite subjects — giant mechanical things and the sights of his native country. The entire collection of paintings tells a narrative — a queer romance about two men who become stuck in the past and whose friendship grows deeper over the decades. “Set in his native Sweden and based in an alternate version of Mälaröarna outside of Stockholm, where he grew up and still lives today, Swedish Machines juxtaposes giant futuristic machines and vehicles against the inner turmoil of the characters facing a social dystopia,” says Free League, who is publishing the book.

The crowdfunding campaign for Swedish Machines blew through its initial goal of $24,500 US dollars in less than a half-hour. The standard edition of the book costs a $45 pledge, but there’s also a Kickstarter-exclusive collector’s edition for a $75 pledge.

You’ve only got a week left to get Swedish Machines — the campaign concludes on September 5.
