The world may be waiting for Superman, but actually, the debut of James Gunn’s DC Universe has already happened, in the form of the cartoon Creature Commandos, which takes place within it. The first season has been premiering on Max all month, and they confirmed today there will be a second.
The premise is this: the government has finally caught on to what Amanda Waller has been doing with her Suicide Squad, and won’t allow it anymore. They passed a new law that states she can’t force human citizens into dangerous, death-defying missions, no matter how incarcerated they are. But ah, the loophole….what if she could find citizens who WEREN’T human? And that’s how the Ctreature Commandos were formed….
Dr. Phosphorous, the glowing skeleton man who resembles Blight from Batman Beyond (yet isn’t). Weasel, whom you might remember from Gunn’s Suicide Squad movie. Steandfast tin soldier GI Robot, and fish out of water Nina Mazursky. Both Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein are part of the team, and before you yell at me, this time “Frankenstein” is really his name (his full name is “Eric Frankenstein”).

Creature Commandos is currently in the middle of its seven-episode first season. New episodes premiere Thursdays on Max.
