We have about a month to go before Scott Pilgrim Takes Off premieres on Netflix, and today at NYCC, the streamer debuted what would appear to be the ultimate trailer for the miniseries. You can’t top setting everything to the Mortal Kombat theme, so this is probably it until we get the actual show.
Since a full season of episodes has a lot more space to fill than a movie, you can expect a lot more of the original comic to be adapted, including scenes the feature film skipped over. But that may not be all: the producers have hinted that the story could go in a different direction than either the comic or movie did, so there will be some surprises even if you know this tale inside and out.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is being produced by Science Saru, whose previous credits include Devilman Crybaby and Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! And the English version stars EVERYONE from the movie: Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim; Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers; Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel; Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells; Chris Evans as Lucas Lee; Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim; Brie Larson as Envy Adams; Alison Pill as Kim Pine; Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers; Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram; Jason Schwartzman as Gideon Graves; Johnny Simmons as Young Neil; Mark Webber as Stephen Stills; Mae Whitman as Roxie; and Ellen Wong as Knives Chau.
Anamanaguchi, who did the music for the Scott Pilgrim video game, is creating original songs for the anime. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off will be released November 17 on Netflix.
