SUMMARY: Four average women in an apartment complex that most people overlook form an unlikely detective squad to expose the crimes hidden within their community.
Salon de Holmes is about four women living in the Gwangseon Jugong Apartment complex, each of whom is underestimated, overlooked, or dismissed in her daily life. The women discover that their apartment community hides more secrets, and more danger, than any of them imagined. What begins as a series of small neighborhood annoyances quickly escalates into a full-fledged vigilante operation.
Kong Mi-Ri is a sharp, observant resident with a natural talent for deduction. Kong Mi-Ri’s keen eye for detail and her refusal to ignore wrongdoing make her the unofficial leader of the group. After moving into the apartment complex, she becomes entangled in a string of strange incidents that demand investigation. Her instincts push her to look deeper, and she soon realizes that the problems plaguing the community are not isolated events but part of a larger pattern of neglect, corruption, and hidden criminal activity.
Chu Kyeong-Ja is a former ace officer whose tough exterior masks a deep sense of justice. Though she initially tries to keep a low profile, her law enforcement background becomes indispensable as the group’s missions grow riskier. Chu Kyeong-Ja’s experience brings structure and strategy to their amateur sleuthing, and her no-nonsense attitude often grounds the team when emotions run high.
Jeon Ji-Hyun is an insurance expert whose analytical mind and understanding of human behavior prove invaluable. Jeon Ji-Hyun’s calm demeanor and methodical approach help the group piece together clues that others might overlook. Her presence adds maturity and emotional depth, especially when the women confront moral dilemmas about how far they should go in their pursuit of justice.
Park So-Hee, a part-time job enthusiast, adds energy and resourcefulness to the team. Her wide network of acquaintances and her ability to adapt to any situation make her the group’s go to person for intel gathering. Park So-Hee’s cheerful personality contrasts with the darker elements of the plot, offering levity even as the stakes rise.
The women initially band together to address petty crimes, illegal parking, littering, and minor disturbances. But as they dig deeper, they uncover a web of more serious offenses involving fraud, intimidation, and exploitation within the apartment complex. Their investigations reveal that the community’s troubles are tied to persons who have long operated with impunity. They rely on residents’ fear and apathy to maintain control.
As the vigilante squad gains confidence, their missions become bolder and more dangerous. Ultimately, they realize they must confront a formidable adversary. Can a group of ordinary women, amateur sleuths like them, rise to the challenge and become extraordinary heroes?
My personal rating is the same as MDL.
“Salon de Holmes” is based on the novel of the same name by Jeon Gun Woo. THINK “Bletchley Circle” but with a much lighter touch. A group of intelligent and talented women who are better at solving crimes than the police.
