Alongside a remix of his iconic “Jazzy New York,” players were introduced to a new lyrical rock anthem, “Go Alex,” further elevating his comeback.
However, the excitement quickly gave way to confusion, and then controversy, as players explored Arcade Mode and World Tour. All this controversy forces Capcom to make a patch!
At the center of the backlash is Alex’s relationship with Patricia, a character long associated with his backstory. In previous lore, Patricia was widely perceived as a childhood friend who shared a sibling-like bond with Alex. Both were raised under the care of Tom, who took Alex in after the death of his parents and trained him as a wrestler.
In Street Fighter 6, that interpretation is challenged. The game reveals that Alex and Patricia are married, a narrative decision that surprised many players. Things escalated further with a line suggesting that Tom is actually Alex’s mother’s cousin, implying a distant blood relation between Alex and Patricia.

In response to the controversy, Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama confirmed that Capcom will release a patch specifically targeting Alex’s story mode dialogue.
While details remain unclear, the likely change will involve removing or altering the line that identifies Tom as Alex’s mother’s cousin. If so, Tom would return to being simply a close family friend, effectively untangling the most controversial part of the family tree.
What makes this especially notable, and honestly a bit hilarious, is that this isn’t a balance patch. No nerfs, no buffs, no frame data tweaks. Instead, fans successfully triggered what might be the first “family tree adjustment patch” in fighting game history.
Traditionally, when players ask for a Street Fighter patch, they’re talking about hitboxes, damage scaling, or fixing glitches. This time, the loudest request wasn’t “nerf this character”, it was closer to “please fix the lore.”
