Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 Is Coming

-

Recently several companies have attempted to clone the popular Smash Bros series of games by gathering a lot of their characters, putting them in 2D arenas and having them fight. What they’ve found out is what all those Mario clones and kart racer knockoffs did in the 90s: Nintendo‘s ideas are deceptively simple, but VERY HARD to beat at their own game (or games).

Warner Bros created a Smash knockoff called Multiversus that did very well for itself at first (it was even free to play!), but player numbers soon dropped sharply and WB was forced to pull the game from the market temporarily (it still isn’t back). Before then, developer GameMill gathered together a ton of characters owned by Nickelodeon/Paramount and introduced Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl two years ago. Like Multiversus, it had massive hype, but not a long tail. Meanwhile Smash Ultimate has had no issues retaining a player base to this day, despite no updates in years.

GameMill says they’ve learned from their mistakes and will take player feedback into consideration when they introduce Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, announced today. It will include all the characters from the first game (Spongebob, Patrick, Aang, Korra, Danny Phantom, Ren and Stimpy, Garfield, Zim, Nigel Thornberry and many others) along with some new additions. Squidward and Jimmy Neutron are the only two they’ll confirm for now.

But GameMill also swears this time, they’ll have proper voice acting in the game from Day 1 — one of the most common complaints. They also say the game will have a bit more meat to it in the form of a single-player campaign where you must stop Vlad Plasmius (from Danny Phantom) from taking over the Nickverse.

Will All-Star Brawl 2 have what it takes to compete, even if the first game didn’t? We’ll find out, won’t we? The game will be released for all modern platforms this fall and include cross-play between them.
