It was a busy weekend these last few days for those following anime news. Anime Expo 2025 meant every major vendor and distributor had something to reveal. Crunchyroll, being the biggest fish in the pond, hosted a panel packed with announcements.
The first thing we learned is that Black Clover is coming back. The magic-based shonen last aired an original episode in 2021. A new season is now in production, and the same animation team (Studio Pierrot) is returning to the job. In addition to the reveal of the first trailer and promotional art, a special message played from creator Yuki Tabata: “The production of the long-awaited new anime season of Black Clover has been confirmed! I’m beyond ecstatic going into the new anime season after the super-passionate movie that came out! Thanks to all of you, Black Clover is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year! I definitely plan to keep this hype going! I want fans from Japan and all around the world to enjoy the powered-up anime that’s going to be brought to you by the most awesome anime production staff! Thank you so much for supporting Black Clover!”
Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- has formally confirmed Season 4 is coming in 2026 and will be exclusively streaming on Crunchyroll. Masahiro Shinohara will return as director, as will voice actors Yusuke Kobayashi (Senku Ishigami in Dr. STONE), Natsuki Subaru (Yusuke Kobayashi) and Emilia (voiced by Rie Takahashi, Ai Hoshino in [OSHI NO KO]).
It’s been argued that the current trend of isekai premises in anime was started by Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, based on the novel series by Rifujin na Magonote. A third season was promised after the conclusion of its second in 2024. We got our first peek at that season during Crunchyroll’s presentation — a two-minute trailer with animation from Studio Bind (Flower and Asura). Ryosuke Shibuya has been confirmed to be returning as director, with character designs being handled by Sanae Shimada and Ryota Furukawa. Yoshiaki Fujisawa (Apocalypse Hotel) also returns as the soundtrack composer. Look for Season 3 in 2026.
As for something new, Masahiko Minami of Studio Bones (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, My Hero Academia, Eureka Seven) has confirmed they’re now working on an anime adaption of Daemons of the Shadow Realm, based on the manga by Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist). The anime version will be directed by Masahiro Ando (Sword of the Stranger), who described the series as “an otherworldly fantasy where mystery and the uncanny intertwine.”
