Netflix’s BEEF was one of their most popular shows last year. The title refers not to a bovine meat product but that simmering rage that boils between two rivals. “I got a BEEF with you” is the expression.
Beef starred Ali Wong and Steven Yeun as two humans of opposite social classes who have an incident in traffic that escalates into increasingly larger acts of revenge against each other. Their lives would be better if they simply cooled off at any time, but they simply can’t let it go. Some assumed this would be a limited series, given a “beef” can only go so far, but we’re now hearing reports of a Season 2. There are also those who thought the show got too silly in the end, but…I like silly things and I am not among them.
Wong and Yeun, as well as anyone else from the first season, will not be returning. Some viewers thought too much was left hanging at the end, but their lives are supposed to be in a bad way; that’s what happens when you let anger rule your life! (Let that be a lesson to you.) Instead, it appears Beef will be using the anthology format and each future season will follow a different set of feuding people.
Deadline reports that those people, this time, will be two couples: one set played by Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny and the other set played by Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway. “Admittedly, this is early, and no deals are in place, but we understand a limited season’s worth of scripts were just turned in or are about to be, and that Netflix and A24 are ready to get the second season into production by late summer or fall,” Deadline reports.
That means we wouldn’t actually see Beef 2 until at least 2025. Try not to get too mad about it.
