Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Returns February 27

-

Apple TV is one of the remaining bastions of Prestige Television and doesn’t usually go for licensed IP mega-budgeted spectacles…except in this case. Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters, a TV spinoff of Legendary and WB’s Monsterverse movies, is heading into its second season with a premise much like its first: these are people hired to monitor all the kaiju on Earth, and this is what they do.

They look rather uneasy throughout today’s released trailer though. They look at obscured footage of something moving in the deep sea and mutter about how it’s their fault. We have to wonder what they did that’s indirectly — or directly, depending — responsible for this big fish’s existence. The trailer doesn’t let us see much of it, with direct glimpses limited to its eyeball that has two irises (does that annoy anyone like it does me? Probably not, but it makes no sense if you think about it. Two light holes would make the eye not function correctly at all). For now, until they can get a better look, they’re calling this beast Titan X.

“In addition to Kong, season two will feature Godzilla and introduce a new Titan: the enigmatic Titan X, now officially on the loose. Titan X isn’t just another monster; it’s a living cataclysm. When its massive bioluminescent form breaks the surface of the ocean, the world seems to hold its breath. In Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season two, Titan X stands at the center of the mystery, an ancient force emerging from the deep, its purpose uncertain, its power unmatched, its awe and terror in equal measure.”

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters stars the return of Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell as Army officer Lee Shaw, plus Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett and Anders Holm, with a guest star list that includes Takehiro Hira, Amber Midthunder, Curtiss Cook, Cliff Curtis, Dominique Tipper and Camilo Jiménez Varón. The first episode premieres February 28 on Apple TV with further episodes rolling out weekly.
