Metal Gear Solid 3, Silent Hill 2 Remakes Coming In 2024

-

Last year Konami announced it was remaking two of the best video games they’ve ever published: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Silent Hill 2. They didn’t mention when those remakes would be out, they just confirmed they were coming at some point. We now know the point, thanks to Sony (whether they intended it or not). A highlight reel of titles coming to the PS5 in 2024 includes footage of MGS3 and SH2, as shown here:

There’s footage of plenty of other games including Tekken 8 and the next Like A Dragon (fka Yakuza) too, but the two aforementioned games are the biggest surprise.

It would make sense to get the MGS3 remake out the door in 2024, as that would mark twenty years to the day from the original PS2 release for the game. Metal Gear Solid 3 reinvented the stealth gameplay of the first MGS by setting most of it in the jungle and adding camouflage, allowing Snake to sneak up on his enemies. The mechanic was incredibly fun, and if you ask me, was the high point of the entire Metal Gear series.

Neither of these games are being made by the original team: MGS3 will be a one-to-one recreation of the original game by a new team of developers and Silent Hill 2 will be re-crafted by the studio Bloober Team. MGS3 will be released for PS5, XBox Series X and PC later this year, while SH2 will be a timed PS5 exclusive.

You might have noticed lately that the majority of Konami’s output has been remakes or republished collections of older material. That’s what happens when you swear off the entire industry, can your best talent, declare pachinko machines will be your entire business, and then awkwardly change your mind a couple years later. Maybe it’s not too late to make P.T. happen.
