Marvel Has Recreated The Avengers Doomsday Trailer Entirely In Lego

-

Today in unexpected moves: the latest trailer for Avengers Doomsday is entirely original footage, and by that we mean it consists of nothing from the movie at all. It’s a recreation of the first trailer they sent out, only done with Lego bricks and minifigs this time.

They released a bizarre bit of PR speak to explain the motive behind this: “The LEGO brick-built trailer is a nod to the creativity of the Marvel fandom and builds excitement for Marvel Studios‘ Avengers: Doomsday theatrical release,” said Paul Gitter, Executive Vice President, Global Brand Commercialization, Disney Consumer Products. “By bringing together the power of our storytelling and consumer products expertise with world-class licensing relationships, we’re able to create innovative fan experiences that extend our stories beyond the screen in ways that are unique to only Disney.”

It’s not “unique to Disney” to make Lego recreations of stuff. Netflix has a recreation of its own coming up, a pair of One Piece specials where a minifig Usopp recants the events of the first two seasons to an interested Chopper. For a while in the 2010s, Lego stuff was the bread and butter of Warner Bros, until they overcooked their Lego Movies with three projects coming out in the same year. This isn’t even counting all the viral and fan videos where popular clips and memes are Lego-fied. Odds are if the idea did not exist, Disney wouldn’t be doing this.

Anyway, it exists and we’re talking about it, which was the whole point and motive. Here it is:

Avengers Doomsday will be released December 18 in theaters, going head-to-head with Dune 3.
