Looks like Krypton’s ruthless general is back. DC has announced its next major event, Kingdom of Zod, will take place across the line of Superman comic books starting in August.
The story begins in Supergirl #16, when the heroine and her friends hear of a military coup in the Kingdom of El Caldero and head off to investigate. Once they find out who’s behind it, Superman will follow in Action Comics #1101, the second chapter released the same day. Neither are fully aware what they’re getting into — Zod has Kryptonite power at his disposal and his takeover of El Caldero is just the first phase of his scheme.
Kingdom of Zod will continue in Supergirl, Action Comics, Superman Unlimited, and Superman through the remaining summer months. It’ll take the collaboration of writers Joshua Williamson, Sophie Campbell, Mark Waid and Dan Slott, along with artists Eddy Barrows, Joe Quinones, Montos and Rachael Stott, to stop Zod this time. Guillem March has drawn connecting main covers across all four series, with variant covers by Noobovich, Stephanie Hans, Joe Quinones, Ariel Olivetti, Mike Choi, ACO, Taurin Clarke, Vincenzo Riccardi, and Christian Ward. Mark Spears will provide foil variant covers for all four titles.
You can follow Kingdom of Zod through Superman Unlimited #16, on August 19, Superman #41 on August 26, and in unspecified dates through September in Supergirl #17, Action Comics #1102, Superman Unlimited #17, and Superman #42. The story will reach its conclusion in Superman: Kingdom of Zod Special, a one-shot on September 30.
But it all begins in Supergirl #16 on August 12, capping off the Summer of Supergirl at DC.
