Tomorrow — which is December 3 from our current perspective — Larry Kenney, the voice actor who played Lion-O on Thundercats, will be the special guest of a livestream hosted by Dynamite Entertainment. What’s the special occasion? This is being dome to promote Dynamite’s oncoming omnibus of the classic original Thundercats comic book, the majority of which has not been reprinted for nearly forty years.
The book was launched by Marvel’s new Star Comics line in 1985, alongside the release of the show itself. Each issue was scripted by David Micheline and Gerry Conway and would last until 1988, printing 24 bi-monthly issues in all (switching to a monthly schedule in 1987). Dynamite plans to partially fund the release of the Thundercats omnibus through Backerkit, and we originally reported that campaign would launch in November, but that hasn’t happened yet. Perhaps they were waiting for an opening in Kenney’s schedule.
”Thunder! Thunder! Thundercats! Hooooooo! At long last!” teases Dynamite. “The Thundercats return with beautifully remastered tales that have been out of print for four decades! Originally published by Marvel Comics, Dynamite has uncovered the original stories and remastered them into amazing omnibus editions! Don’t miss out on this limited release!”
Tune in to the special Thundercats livestream with Lion-O himself on YouTube and on the Backerkit page tomorrow, December 3 at 11:30 AM Pacific / 2:30 PM Eastern. All signs point to this being the moment the campaign officially launches, and why wouldn’t it be…
