SUMMARY: A designer who is emotionally distant because she’s lost loved ones to tragedy. A bright animator loses his hearing and memory after a tragic accident. He doesn’t remember her, and she believes he died in the accident. They must navigate trauma, rediscover memories, and reconnect.
In “In Your Radiant Season”, Song Ha-Ran and Sunwoo Chan begin as anonymous online companions, not officially dating, but emotionally intertwined. Sunwoo Chan quietly develops feelings for her, while Song Ha-Ran falls deeply enough to confess her love. She insists on meeting him in person. Despite living oceans apart, he in Boston, she in Seoul, she boards a plane to see him.
But tragedy strikes before they can meet. An explosion occurred, and Song Ha-Ran believes Sunwoo Chan died in the blast. However, he was transported to a hospital in South Korea and survived against all odds. The accident leaves him with hearing loss and partial memory loss. All he can recall is the voice of a woman saying “I love you,” a memory he clings to as the reason he fought to stay alive.
Seven years later, Sunwoo Chan’s body is physically scarred, but his spirit is intact. He is a bright, optimistic animator who hopes to collaborate with the famous designer who is Song Ha-Ran’s grandmother. He has created the animated characters, but wants real clothing designers to create the costumes for them. Song Ha-Ran’s grandmother agrees to work with Sunwoo Chan. Although? She is rather puzzled because the main animated character looks like her granddaughter. The resemblance is striking.
Song Ha-Ran is assigned to lead the project, forcing her into close collaboration with Sunwoo Chan. Their worlds could not be more different.
Neither realizes they were once each other’s anonymous confidants. Song Ha-Ran still believes Sunwoo Chan is dead, and Sunwoo Chan only remembers the voice of a woman he can’t identify.
As they work together, Song Ha-Ran is drawn to Sunwoo Chan’s sincerity. He is gentle but persistent; quiet but resilient; and oddly “familiar”. Sunwoo Chan’s memory loss leaves him slightly disoriented, yet he remains determined to rebuild his life. He finds comfort in Song Ha-Ran’s steady presence and as they work together, he experiences flashes of memory, some beautiful, some painful. As his memories return, the truth resurfaces, which includes secrets surrounding the explosion that changed both their lives.
Together, they discover that even after years of darkness, it is still possible to create new seasons of warmth, light, and love.
My personal rating is the same as MDL.
“In Your Radiant Season” is touching and tender. There is a mentally scarred, grieving female lead and a male lead suffering from amnesia who is physically scarred. They were torn apart by a horrible accident and must find their way back to each other.
