IDW has announced the release of their latest Kaiju creation, Godzilla: Monster Island Summer Camp, and we’ve got a preview for you. It’s a full graphic novel released in one piece, not a multi-part 32-page comic book that’ll be collected into a GN eventually.
Monster Island Summer Camp is an all-ages tale focused on Zelda (not the one you’re thinking of), a young aspiring cartoonist who dreams of staying at Make It Summer, an art-themed summer camp where she can draw and doodle all day. But the day she finally gets there, she finds it under new management — gone are the easels and sketchboards, in their place athletic equipment and extreme sports.
Only one thing will save this vacation: a portal to Monster Island. Luckily, that’s exactly what Zelda finds in a remote corner of the camp when she runs off to hide. She’ll have a much better time with Minilla, the baby kaiju she befriends after discovering the island. Unfortunately she also discovers Monster Island is under threat from an evil force — and if she can’t figure out a way to stop it, it could spread into her own world.
We’ve got five pages of Godzilla: Monster Island Summer Camp to share with you; the full book is available now for $24.95.

As an aspiring cartoonist, Zelda has always dreamed of attending an art summer camp, and this year she finally gets to go! But when she arrives to Make It Summer Camp, she’s horrified to see the easels and sketchboards have been replaced with dodgeball and calisthenics. The camp is under new, suspicious management that’s turned it into an extreme sports nightmare. Determined to salvage her summer, Zelda escapes to a secluded corner of the island. Here she can finally draw in peace. At least until she stumbles into a portal to a fantastic world!
Welcome to Monster Island, Zelda!
There she makes a connection with baby kaiju Minilla and discovers the beauty of these legendary creatures. However, all is not well on Monster Island. Great evils are stirring and if Zelda can’t protect their home, the kaiju will unleash their wrath on the world.
