Hulu’s Alien: Earth Confirmed For 2025

Hulu has begun rolling out promotion for Alien: Earth, the franchise’s first TV series. A teaser has been rolling in theaters during that annoying “Noovie” thing ever since the day Alien: Romulus was released. Unfortunately the teaser is about as tease-y as they come, showing nothing but the reflection of Earth in the smooth elongated forehead of a Xenomorph, who then looks at the camera and growls loudly.

Fortunately we do have some kind of an idea as to what this is about, even if the promos don’t say much. Alien: Earth is set thirty years before the original 1979 “Alien” movie, and as the title says, is about the famed monster visiting our planet. Says Hulu, “When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat.”

Ultimately, this show may explain how Weyland-Yutani could know of the Xenomorph’s existence prior to sending a crew of space truckers to “accidentally” pick one up. Granted, I haven’t seen the two Alien Vs Predator movies, which were also set on Earth and also took place before Alien 1 — they might’ve had their own explanation for this. But it’s my understanding those are no longer canon anyway.

Alien: Earth is currently being shepherded by Noah Hawley, who previously made FX’s Fargo series and the trippy X-Men spinoff Legion. The man usually knows what he’s doing, so we’re cautiously optimistic of Hulu’s chances, even if the crew of soldiers about to encounter the Alien shouldn’t be. More to come in the next few months.
