Godzilla has had a comic book presence for decades, but under IDW’s licensor-ship, he’s mostly been socking around other IPs in crossover specials. But he DOES get his own solo adventures from time to time, and another one is coming up.
IDW’s newest Godzilla book is a sequel to Godzilla: Monsters & Protectors, a series released in 2021. There, Godzilla gained a new friend: a web influencer named Cedric. Cedric was only too happy to hang around with the big lizard because he happened to boost Cedric’s views up quite a bit, but it eventually became a true friendship. So now as this new series opens, Cedric is dismayed when Godzilla disappears and can’t be found. There aren’t a lot of places a creature that large can hide!
The sequel series, called Godzilla: Monsters & Protectors—All Hail The King!, will boast the same creative team: writer Erik Burnham, illustrator Dan Schoening, and colorist Luis Antonio Delgado. “I’m so excited to get back into the Monsters & Protectors corner of the Godzilla universe,” says Burnham. “The first miniseries was a lot of fun to work on, playing with so many of the wacky, wild, and wonderful parts of Godzilla lore… so Dan Schoening, Luis Antonio Delgado and I aim to go even further in that direction this time! We just can’t wait to share another monster-sized adventure with the next generation of Godzilla fans.”
“Getting the opportunity to explore the world of Godzilla again is a great honor for me,” says Schoening. “I grew up watching the Shōwa era films, and having the chance to draw these larger-than-life monsters is nothing short of incredible. I hope these new stories help spread the love I have for TOHO’s creations with a whole new generation of Godzilla fans.”
The first issue of Godzilla: Monsters & Protectors—All Hail The King! will be out this October from IDW. Five issues are planned in the series.
