It’s doubtful any of the kids playing Five Nights At Freddy’s today have any point of reference for what the game is based on. Pizza parlors with animatronic characters singing ancient radio hits used to be everywhere, but they’ve gradually been scaled back over the decades — Chuck E Cheese no longer has an actual robot Chuck E. The closest Generation Alpha can get to that experience is a video game where the animatronics come to life after dark and stalk you.
But there will be soon more than one way to experience FNAF. A feature film is on the way this October, and around that same time, Funko Games will also be putting out a tabletop version of Freddy Fazbear’s rampage of terror. In Five Nights at Freddy’s FightLine, there’s no night watchman to bother (maybe they killed him already)…so Freddy and the others will have to settle for fighting each other!
Two to four players take control of Fazbear, Chica the Chicken, Foxy the Pirate and others in a board game where the goal is to be the last bot standing through “out-fighting and out-frighting” the other players. Everything you need to play is in the Premier Set with four figures and various cards, but since this is a Funko game, there’s a collectible angle with separately purchasable Character Packs that expand the number of players and moves. The box won’t tell you which character figure you get — an ancient tactic with its roots in sports cards. Trade your duplicates with friends!
Five Nights at Freddy’s FightLine will be released exclusively in Gamestop stores October 1. Five Nights At Freddy’s: The Movie opens in theaters October 27.
