First Peek At Peacemaker Season 2

Before James Gunn was given the weighty job of overlording the entire DC Cinematic Universe, he brought us the Max hit Peacemaker, spun off from his equally excellent The Suicide Squad. John Cena’s Peacemaker was overall a bad guy in the film, but has somewhat of a redemption arc in his self-titled series. If you still haven’t seen it, nothing’s stopping you (aside from the price of a Max subscription).

Thanks to Gunn’s new job keeping him busy, it’s been a longer wait for Peacemaker Season 2 than originally intended, but Max has confirmed we’ll be getting more in 2025….and to prove it, they let us see a bit of it. This is another sizzle reel, similar to the one we just shared from Disney+, that contains a lot of other shows that aren’t Peacemaker.

Some of these other shows will get newsposts of their own eventually. But this is Peacemaker’s time.

It’s ever so brief, but the guy in an office building walking toward the camera is Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr, a man out for revenge against Peacemaker. He’ll be the main antagonist of the new season. There was once a Rick Flag Jr. until Peacemaker killed him in The Suicide Squad — now Sr. will stop at nothing to apprehend the antihero.

And he won’t just show up here — Rick Flag Sr. plays a major role in the Gunnverse, with appearances confirmed in the Superman movie and even the Creature Commandos cartoon.”He is a really cool character that Frank has been molding,” Gunn said to EW.com. “He is one of the primary characters in Peacemaker Season 2. So we get to see this character from different angles, and he is not simple. This isn’t just a good guy, not at all.”

“We see all different sides of his character. He is morally a complex human being. Grillo is somebody who I’ve known for a little while, and I’ve wanted to work with him for a long time. He was one of the first people that I talked to when I took over the studio, like ‘we’re going to find something cool for you,’ and now he is everywhere.”

Or he will be everywhere. Peacemaker will return in August 2025, one month after the release of Superman.
