A few weeks ago, indie game developer Crytivo launched a crowdfunding campaign for their in-development space terraforming sim Farlanders. The campaign was a massive success, earning three times its demanded goal and a whopping $24,000.
Man now has the technology to reach Mars — but it’s inhospitable. To make it less deadly for life forms, the planet will need to be terraformed by a willing organization — yours. Once on the planet, you’ll solve environmental puzzles from an overhead view to release buried water, cultivate the soil, grow plants and build structures. Use solar and wind energy to harness electricity and power even more elaborate machines. Eventually you’ll have things running well enough that settlers will start arriving — and then you’ll really have your hands full.
Three stretch goals were met during the campaign for Farlanders: a random events system, an exploration system and an underground expansion. Those three features will be part of the final game…however, the largest stretch goal — a console version of Farlanders — was not met. Maybe someday in the future.
Look for Farlanders later this year on PC, Mac and Linux. A prologue chapter is available now and can be downloaded for free from Steam.
