HAIKYU!! isn’t the only sports anime that will be hitting the big screen this summer. A month from now, Crunchyroll will bring over Blue Lock: The Movie -Episode Nagi-, a younger series following a different sport (soccer).

Based on the manga series of the same name by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura, Blue Lock follows a group of high school students who aim to reach the heights of the Japan’s Men’s National Team — but to do so they must ace the BLUE LOCK training program. The anime adaption debuted on Crunchyroll in October 2022 and currently consists of one season.

This movie in particular centers around one student, Nagi Seishiro. Nagi never even considered playing soccer until his friend, Mikage Reo, discovered his hidden talent and insisted Nagi start playing. That led to an invitation to join the BLUE LOCK program, and from there, things started getting tough….

“That’s a hassle.” That was second-year high schooler Nagi Seishiro’s favorite phrase as he lived his dull life. Until Mikage Reo, a classmate who dreamed of winning the World Cup, discovered Nagi’s hidden skill, inspiring him to play soccer and share his outstanding talent. One day, he receives an invitation to the mysterious BLUE LOCK Project. What awaits him there is an encounter with the finest strikers assembled from across the country. Nagi’s dream of becoming the best, alongside Reo, will take this prodigy to a world he’s never known.

Blue Lock: The Movie -Episode Nagi- was directed by Shunsuke Ishikawa from an original story by Muneyuki Kaneshiro. It starts the following voices (Japanese / English):

Blue Lock: The Movie -Episode Nagi- will open in US theaters June 28, in both sub and dub form.
