Disney Celebrates Centennial With Animated Film Collection

-

You probably know by now that The Walt Disney Company is 100 years old this year. The”Disney100″ branding on most products issued out in 2023 is designed to make sure everybody knows. But the celebration comes at an awkward time, as the studio is currently filming nothing while a bitter strike rages outside its walls. At this time they’d rather magnify the past, not the present.

So….presenting the ultimate Disney animated Blu-ray set. This centennial collection packs in the COMPLETE LIBRARY of Disney and Pixar animated movies from the past hundred years, from Snow White all the way to Elemental. Both physical discs and digital codes are included for each film. There’s also a booklet with theatrical poster art, a small lithograph of a scene from Disney’s next animated feature Wish, and a little crystal Mickey hat.

Your definition of “COMPLETE” may vary. In this case, anything that made it to a theater is in the collection, but anything direct to video is not — that means stuff that was produced for video but released to theaters, like Planes or Return To Never Land, counts, but things like Cinderella III or Return of Jafar do not. They also did not include anything that had live-action elements in it, so Mary Poppins and Roger Rabbit aren’t in the box (though they seem to have made an exception for Saludos Amigos). Here’s the full list:

As for how much it costs, this is one of those “if you have to ask, you can’t afford it” situations. Disney won’t let a collection of this size out unless you hand over $1500. Is there even a market for a Blu-ray set that expensive? Guess we’ll find out. FWIW all these films are on Disney+ and you’d have to subscribe for about eleven years to equal that amount. The set will be released this November.
