SUMMARY: A schoolteacher discovers a cursed diary that pulls him into the tragic love story of its tormented author. As past and present collide, he must break a deadly cycle of obsession before it consumes him.
In “Dead Again”, Thomas is a schoolteacher with a sad love story. His life falls apart due to heartbreak and career instability. He stumbles upon an old diary in an antique district and can’t put it down. He feels a connection somehow.
The diary belonged to Jeong Hun, an aspiring writer whose life was consumed by grief after the death of his beloved girlfriend, Crystal. Unable to accept her loss, Jeong Hun turned to occult rituals in a desperate attempt to bring her back from the dead. His obsession spiraled into madness. His diary became a vessel for the curse he unleashed. Anyone who reads the diary becomes entangled in Jeong Hun’s tragic fate. It’s a curse.
[Kind of like the mummy’s curse for disturbing the tomb. I guess (O.o)]
Thomas experiences vivid visions and disturbing encounters that blur the line between past and present. The diary’s curse manipulates him into reenacting Jeong Hun’s descent into madness. Love turns into paranoia and devotion into destruction. Thomas’s girlfriend becomes increasingly hostile toward him. It was the same thing that happened to Jeong Hun and Crystal.
The film alternates between Thomas’s present-day struggle and Jeong Hun’s past struggle. Jeong Hun’s obsessive love turned toxic, and he attempted to resurrect Crystal only to deepen his torment. His encounters with devil worshipers, fortune tellers, and occult practitioners paint a picture of a man spiraling into darkness. By reading the diary, Thomas becomes a vessel for Jeong Hun’s unresolved anguish.
The diary was not merely a record of grief but a ritualistic artifact designed to bind the souls of lovers across lifetimes. Jeong Hun believed that by cursing the diary, he could force destiny to reunite him with Crystal ~ even if it meant destroying the lives of other lovers in the process. The supernatural forces tighten around Thomas, and he must decide whether to break the curse or succumb to the same tragic fate.
Main Characters:
Where to Watch: Apple TV and Tubi TV
My personal rating is the same as MDL.
“Dead Again” was boring. I’m not going to blame it on being low budget. A cursed diary? It’s an interesting premise, but the story couldn’t keep my attention.
