“‘Dark Hole’ is about a petrochemical factory’s sinkhole that turns people into strange figures, and the people who aren’t infected try to survive.” (Description per Apple TV+)
So! It’s not an alien invasion. It’s just humanity messing up humanity!
(Apologies. Let me get off my rant, and back to the story.)
Lee Hwa-Sun is a detective who has become a widow. She came home and found her husband dead. The murderer calls her on the phone taunting her and daring her to face off. The murderer tells Lee Hwa-Sun what happened to her husband is all her fault and that she and her husband should not have tried to change her (i.e. the murderer) because she’s not a person who can be saved.
WOW! Talk about an attitude of ingratitude. OK! You don’t want to change when people are trying to help you? Then leave!! Why do you kill one of them and then threaten the other one with a showdown?
Lee Hwa-Sun travels to Muji City to confront her husband’s killer. But whereas she is an outsider, Yoo Tae-Han has lived there all of his life. He is a former detective who now works as a wrecker driver. Something is going on in his hometown. Dark smoke is causing people to turn into monsters.
Lee Hwa-Sun and Yoo Tae-Han cross paths and decide to work together. She has to catch her husband’s murderer. But the more pressing priority is to try to stop people from becoming monsters and saving themselves.
As I said: At least it’s not an alien invasion like it was in “Parasite the Grey”.
The title of “Dark Hole” confused me because I thought it would be about black holes. Black? Dark? It’s easy to understand where I thought this series was going. But so far as I know, according to scientists, black holes don’t really pose a danger to mankind.
Black holes are not dangerous because none are close enough to Earth. However, if Earth ever did get close enough, it would be pulled apart by the black hole’s gravitational pull. This effect is called “spaghettification”. Earth would be compressed from top to bottom AND stretched apart simultaneously. Lord knows what will happen to the humans and what we will do to save ourselves IF that ever happens.
So! That’s what I figured “Dark Hole” would be about. Although? You probably could not write a script about this because if the planet ever did get too close to a black hole, it would be the end of the world as we know it. No place to run. No place to hide.
Black holes can be described as an IMPORTANT, POWERFUL, INVISIBLE … NOTHING!!
Ever watch the children’s movie “The NeverEnding Story”? The message in that movie is … YOU CAN’T STOP The Nothing!! LOL.
OK! So “Dark Hole” is not about black holes, but rather it’s about sinkholes. Not sure about you, but sinkholes have always terrified me! They look like a black hole that opened up beneath your feet and sucked you in!
Here are examples of recent (2023/2024) real news reports about sinkholes.
There are plenty of other news stories:
Because in America, if anything major happens, it usually happens in New York or D.C.
Anyway! You get my point. SINKHOLES ARE CRAZY! But so far, there have never been reports that people turned into monsters because of them.
My personal rating is the same as the Viki viewers: 9.1 out of 10 stars.
