Crunchyroll Rolling Out Manga App In 2025

-

Crunchyroll made a surprising announcement at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas — they’re introducing a manga app as a companion to their anime app. It’ll be called — what else — Crunchyroll Manga.

“Crunchyroll Manga will be a premiere online manga app that carries catalogs from renowned publishers, offering fans unparalleled access to the visionary works that inspire the anime we love,” said Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini. “As we strengthen partnerships in this exciting new venture, we aim to add even more value to the Crunchyroll membership, complementing our vast anime library, Crunchyroll Game Vault, and extensive selection of products in the Crunchyroll Store.”

There aren’t a lot of details at this early stage beyond the announcement that the app will exist. The way Purini talks, it sounds like this will be part of the Crunchyroll anime subscription and not a separate service, though even that hasn’t been confirmed. There’s also no word on if the existence of this would raise the price of the app in general (hopefully not).

At one point, before Sony owned it, Crunchyroll experimented with a manga app, but they weren’t able to get much content for it. Will that change? We just have this vague statement for now: “Offering a vast array of stories across diverse genres, Crunchyroll Manga will feature both iconic titles and current fan favorites.” One would assume Crunchy now has the weight to pay big bucks for the most popular pages, but licensing deals with other companies might get in the way of that.

We’ll see what Crunchyroll Manga is like when it launches later in 2025. For now, it’s too distant to judge.
