The most anticipated anime of 2024 was confirmed for a US release (as if there was any doubt) from Crunchyroll today at their NYCC panel. Kaiju No 8 was announced for development earlier this year and is now on track for a spring debut.
In a world where kaiju are constantly emerging and causing chaos, civilization’s most vital organization are the members of the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force. It’s Kafka Hibino’s biggest dream to join the force, but he’s failed every entry test he’s taken. He just doesn’t have the physical chops, until that fateful day he runs into a lone Kaiju — who merges with his body. Now he has the moves to ace the test and become the AKDF’s most valuable member — unless they learn his secret.
Kaoju No 8 is based on the manga series by Naoya Matsumoto, who delivered a special message during the panel: “[Kaiju No. 8 is] a story about someone struggling in a harsh world without ever giving up, in the hopes of leading people into an even slightly brighter future. To anyone dealing with the complexities of reality that reads this manga, I hope it can help make your future a little brighter, too. Kaiju No. 8 is being animated by Production I.G (PSYCHO-PASS; GHOST IN THE SHELL), with artwork and design supervision by Studio Khara (Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition, Shin Godzilla (Pre Visualization Development)).
