Crater, Imagine growing up In the Moon

-

“Crater” explores one of the most attainable science fiction fantasies: colonizing the moon. The technology to make it happen is there, but the problem is that we don’t have the budget. Colonizing the moon will be humanity’s gateway to colonizing other heavenly bodies, from Mars to Jovian moons. Sadly, with all the wars going on and the Earth’s economy still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, a return to the moon is still an elusive dream. At least this movie will give us a glimpse of a far future and what life on the moon is like.

Crater stars Mckenna Grace, Isaiah Russell-Bailey, Billy Barratt, Brady Noon, Orson Hong, and Carson MinniearScott Mescudi who is more known as the Rapper Kid Cudi also makes his acting debut in this movie. This talented child ensemble will give us the nostalgia of 1980s kid adventure movies but in a futuristic setting. The potential of this movie is outstanding because it is from the Producers of  Stranger Things.

It is like Goonies but in space. Director Kyle Patrick Alvarez picks up this script from the 2015 Black List. “The Black List” is a library of high-potential movie scripts that have not yet been adapted despite their potential. I am glad that this original movie has been greenlit, as Disney has recently had an addiction to remakes and sequels. Finally, we get an original Disney movie!

Crater Official Trailer!

The year is 2257, The Humans had already colonized Earth’s moon and even other planets. Earth’s moon is still a hostile environment but humans live inside a glass dome city built on a crater. You may ask why humans live there. The Moon became a mining colony because it is rich in resources like Helium 3.

Caleb (Isaiah Russell-Bailey) lives on the moon all his life. His father died tragically young, so he will be relocated to a faraway planet where he has relatives. When his father (Scott Mescudi) was still alive, He told him that someday he should go to the crater. What is in that crater? Only his father knows. Caleb never left the domed city. He doesn’t want to leave the moon without knowing about the crater his father talks about. So he embarks on an adventure with his friends Addison(Mckenna Grace) and Borney (Orson Hong). Dylan (Billy Barratt), A new comer from Earth also joins in. The kids stole a rover and some space suits so they can try to find what is hiding in the Crater. Moon is a dangerous place so their journey won’t be easy. Watch this adventure on Disney Plus this May 12, 2023.
