Check Out The Spy x Family Season 2 Opening Sequence

-

The second season of the anime hit Spy x Family premieres in just a few days, but Toho Animation has released the full main title sequence today. While the previous two have gone for pretty, well-rendered scenes of the Forger family romping around with lots of bloom and glow effects, this latest opener goes for art, and gets a bit more abstract. Prepare to have lots of feet shoved in your face, R. Crumb style.

This title was directed by Masaaki Yuasa, former president of the anime studio Science Saru. If the accompanying melody sounds Bebop-y, it should…it was performed by by Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts, who did music for the Cowboy Bebop anime, and sung by ADO, who previously could be heard in One Piece Film: Red.

Loid Forger is secretly the master spy known as Twilight. To pull off his latest mission, he must quickly concoct a fake family in order to get close to a foreign official. A woman he runs into at the store agrees to pose as his wife, but HE doesn’t know she’s secretly the world’s deadliest assassin! And when the pair adopts a child to complete the ruse, THEY don’t know pink-haired Anya is secretly a telepath who can read both their minds, and knows THEIR secrets instantly!

The series wound down with an arc that added one new member to the Forger family, a dog…and if you think the dog must have a secret of its own, you’re right. Bond can see into the future, and Anya can tap into those visions to sense trouble ahead. We’re now hearing Season 2 will mainly adapt the manga’s “Cruise Adventure” arc, which is what it sounds like: the Forgers have been invited on a cruise ship, but they each have their own secret reasons for being there.

New episodes of Spy x Family will premiere weekly in sub form starting this Saturday, October 7, on Crunchyroll.
