If you live in a smart home, people automatically assume that your life has been made easy because you’re living with the newest, the latest, the best state-of-the-art technology. Nobody even thinks about the word “old”. You’re living just like the “The Jetsons”, who lived in the futuristic city of Orbit City. Remember Rosie, the robot maid? She was friendly and courteous, prepared meals, did most of the household chores, and was practically accepted as a member of the family.

Cassandra is also an electronic household helper, but she’s nothing like Rosie.

In this series, a woman moves her family to a home in Cologne, Germany. It is about 50 years old, i.e. built in the 1970s, and it is Germany’s oldest smart home. WOW! It’s historic. An old smart home? They do exist! And the previous owners? Oh! They don’t exist. Not anymore. They died. How did they die? Uuhhh … mysteriously.

Cassandra is a virtual assistant and should be a “neutral” assistant programmed to serve. There is no such thing as good or evil. At least, there shouldn’t be. But as the new family starts settling into their old smart home, they discover that the home’s virtual assistant, Cassandra, which is now fully operational, after decades of dormancy, has some wicked intentions. For one thing, as far as Cassandra is concerned, it’s her house. It’s up to her to allow a family to live there … in peace and happiness.

The home has been described as a vintage smart home with a retrofuturistic visual aesthetic. That’s quite a spin and sounds like it should be a project on an episode of “This Old House”.

“Cassandra” is played by Lavinia Wilson, a German actress who started her career the age of 11 and has appeared in 60+ films. Critics and fans are praising her performance bringing to life a virtual assistant. They describe her as “eerie”, “manipulative”, “chilling” and “captivating”. Bottom line: She really nailed the role of Cassandra.
