BLADE RUNNER: BLACK LOTUS

This 13 episode show is an Anime based on Blade Runner films. This series is a collaboration between Crunchy Roll and Adult Swim. It is a continuation of Black Out. Black Out is a short film based on the franchise but set in Asia instead. Blade Runner: Black Lotus is directed by Shinji Aramaki(Appleseed Franchise) and Kenji Kamiyama (Eden).

Blade Runner: Black Lotus centers around a replicant but she didn’t know she is an Android. Even if she has the appearance of a slender lady she is stronger than most humans. She is no ordinary replicant because she is suppose to be a weapon. I think I watched something similar before.  She is on the run because of the people after her and she prefers to be free than being a slave. She is programmed to have superior combat ability and that makes her able to fend for herself.

The First Blade Runner is set in a futuristic 2o19 that looks nothing like the actual year we experience. Now this Anime is set in a futuristic 2032 that is most likely less cyberpunk than what we will experience. Realistic Android exists not but they are not sentient.

This Anime reminds me of Battle Angel Alita and Ghost in the Shell.  It is weird to see an Anime in CGI instead of 2d but the characters looks expressive enough. Some fans accused this as cash cow trying to Milk the Blade Runner name but it is canon to the films. Characters from the movie franchise might appear on this show to make it part of the extended Universe. Adult Swim will release the show in English Dub while People who prefers Japanese Dub can watch it in Crunchy Roll. There is no release date yet but it will come out somewhere late this year.
