Avengers Doomsday Releases Trailer Ahead Of Comic-Con Arrival

All those who were expecting the trailer for Avengers Doomsday to be released during Comic-Con next week got a surprise today when Marvel Studios chose to release it NOW. Granted, today is also the day pre-release tickets go on sale, but we suppose Marvel wanted more attention paid to itself and decided to launch its promotion ahead of the Con.

It’s undeniable at this point: high-budget big-spectacle superhero movies are in decline. As much as studios would prefer to make the same thing forever and get the same result, it’s just not happening. Avengers Doomsday feels like the last chance Marvel has to prove it can recapture the cultural zeitgeist, and it’s throwing literally everything on the table in its bid to do so.

Any Marvel superhero who’s anybody is in this montage. We spotted  Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), Gambit (Channing Tatum), Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), Mystique (Rebecca Romijn), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejía), Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), The Human Torch (Joseph Quinn), The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Scott Lang (Paul Rudd). and most notably, the still-unexplained return of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans).

Everyone has come together to face the threat of…Robert Downey Jr. again. RDJ found a way back into the MCU even after his previous character snapped himself away, by playing Doctor Doom. Since Doom wears an iron mask at all times (the egomaniac welded it to his own face), it’s an easy character to cast a duplicate actor as. In the trailer, Thor throws his best moves at Doom, but the Latverian simply holds up two fingers to block the attack.

The real question isn’t if the Avengers can beat this guy (we already know it’ll take more than one movie). It’s if the Avengers can make people care again after all this time, because the 2026 box office is hungry for fresh ideas, and this really doesn’t look like anything we haven’t seen already. Avengers Doomsday will be summoned to theaters December 18.
