Avatar: Seven Havens, The Next Show After Korra, Unveiled

An otherwise nondescript Thursday happened to be the day Avatar fans have been waiting years for. A new animated project was just announced this morning from Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios. It’s not a movie, it’s not a spinoff. It is THE third Avatar series — Avatar: Seven Havens — the official continuation with the next Avatar in the line.

What’s this Avatar like? No one knows yet, except for the details that they’re female and born to Earthbenders. “Avatar: Seven Havens is set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm,” says Nick’s description. “A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra – but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”

You may recall that The Legend Of Korra ended with the human and spirit worlds merging. This block of text implies that didn’t have the positive effect Korra was hoping for. You may also recall that those final episodes debuted online instead of on TV where they should have. Is Nick going to treat this series any better?

There are promising signs. They’ve given Avatar: Seven Havens a two-season order of 26 episodes (13 per season), which gives it more room to grow than the stingy one-season orders they kept giving Korra. This also comes from a studio more devoted to the Avatar brand than they were this time last decade — there’s a whole sub-studio now dedicated to producing nothing but Avatar stuff.

“When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later,” DiMartino and Konietzko said in a statement. “This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters.”

More on Avatar: Seven Havens as we learn about it. But it maybe a while. The next scheduled release from this universe is a feature film starring an adult Aang, due out early 2026.
