Attack On Titan Begins Its Final Attack This Sunday

-

After a full decade, one of the more successful manga and anime properties in recent history is finally wrapping it up. Attack On Titan will premiere the first of its final batch of episodes this coming Sunday, both in Japan and in the US courtesy of Funimation.

In case you’re wondering why the Final Season has taken so long, and why it was released in two parts, it’s because everything had to wait for the manga to finish. The absolutely final volume of Attack On Titan wasn’t released until April of 2021. The anime can’t move faster than that, nor can it produce useless filler to stall for time because new anime shows don’t really do that anymore. But now that they have the complete story, they can move ahead and get this thing finished.

Season 4 has been very different from the previous three. After a time jump, the main threat isn’t naked giants with big mouths anymore…it’s a bloody conflict between two nations, with the heroes from the previous seasons caught in the middle. Former friends are now enemies, and Eren has grown up into a huge jerk. What happens next? Funimation says “The war for Paradis zeroes in on Shiganshina just as Jaegerists have seized control. After taking a huge blow from a surprise attack led by Eren, Marley swiftly acts to return the favor. With Zeke’s true plan revealed and a military forced under new rule, this battle might be fought on two fronts. Does Eren intend on fulfilling his half-brother’s wishes or does he have a plan of his own?”

You’ll be able to watch the midseason premiere of Attack On Titan’s final season January 9 on the Funimation app and Crunchyroll, with subtitles. The dubbed version will come a bit later and though Toonami hasn’t announced an airing for these episodes, it usually happens.
