Alien Earth Season Two Starts Shooting This Summer, With Peter Dinklage On Board

-

It goes without saying FX’s Alien Earth was not what anyone was expecting, or really hoping for. Showrunner Noah Hawley zigged where everyone was expecting (and demanding) a zag, creating a prequel that wasn’t all that scary or intimidating. In fact, if you let Season One stand alone, it has the happiest ending any Alien story has ever told, with protagonist Wendy in an almost invincible position over her enemies. Violence was high, but the body count among the characters we were following was untraditionally low.

We soon learned why: this wasn’t intended as a a one-season story. Hawley was gambling on a renewal he hadn’t received yet. He did eventually get it, but it took several months, which means it’s going to take even longer to set everything back up and start shooting. We now know when production will start on Season Two: this summer. Don’t count on seeing any of it until at least 2027.

But when you do, it will have one additional cast member…believe it or not, its Peter Dinklage. What’s his role? What’s he doing there? No one knows, and with staff and crew keeping quiet, it may be a while before we do. (We take it this also means Dinklage refused the offer to replace Natasha Lyonne on Poker Face…we’re not kidding about that).

“It’s my hope, I have a place that I’m going, but I don’t know how long it will take me to get there,” Hawley told the website Deadline. “Assuming that the price of execution and the audience stays commensurate, we could go for as long as we want. If we nurture them, these franchises can give back for a very long time.”

In other words, Hawley is hoping for more than just a Season Two, but that really depends on if ratings and the audience will allow it. More casting news regarding Alien Earth is promised soon.
