Capcom will be throwing up a full-fledged demo for the Resident Evil 2 remake very soon. You’ll be able to explore to your heart’s content, but the catch is this: you must finish within 30 minutes.
You’re given a mission at the start of the demo. Playing as Leon, you have just a half-hour to complete it. Finish within that time, and you can start over (with what little time you have left). If the zombies get you, however, you must begin again but with less time on the clock. It may not sound fair, but in video games one must pay for fairness.
Resident Evil 2 isn’t the first game to put a time limit on its demo, but it’s definitely the most high-profile game to do so in quite a while.
In the “1-Shot demo,” players step into the boots of rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy as he arrives at Raccoon City Police Station in the ultimate worst first day on the job. Leon must survive vicious zombies and solve puzzles to find safe passage out of the station. With an entire building of flesh-eating nightmares lurking between Leon and his escape while the clock ticks down, players need to be sure they’re killing more than just time.
Since the demo isn’t out yet, we couldn’t tell you if erasing the game and downloading it again would give you a fresh shot. If you’re not very good at survival horror games, it’s the best you’ll have to hope for.
Fortunately it won’t be long until the full game can be experienced: Resident Evil 2 will be out for Playstation 4, XBox One and PC January 25.
